You Are Defined By God

“For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my
mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully
and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-14

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But you don’t have to make theirs yours. Maybe it’s time to stop allowing their words and opinions, to affect you and define you. To the point, you lose who you really are.

Imagine this…

When a potter makes clay or a painter paints an image, landscape or concept and names it – the painting then belongs to them. A mother has a child and names him, ‘John’. The baby boy, named John is her son. Alexander Graham Bell, invented the first practical telephone. And from then onwards, it has been called a telephone or phone and nothing else.
Do you get the picture?

Now, imagine playing Chinese whispers with a group of friends. You chose a word to go round,┬ábut it got lost in translation. Came back to you void. Tarnished. Ripped from it’s original meaning. How would you feel? Confused maybe? Imagine, this is how God feels, when He sees us walk around, with these new definitions for ourselves. Imagine Him, hearing you recite the names, others threw at you, to yourself.

God knitted you together in your mother’s womb, uniquely and gave you the name in which you go by. He knows the number of hairs on your head. So why then, would you accept another name, other than the one your creator gave you? Why accept, what others describe you as? When your father in Heaven says, you are fearfully and wonderfully made.

If you have to, write it down and make it plan, (Habakkuk 2:2) in your room or as a wallpaper for your phone. Then do so. Begin to speak over yourself, who God, your father says you are. For He defines you.

I love this song, called “You Define Me”, by Kim Walker-Smith. Please listen and let the words resonate with you.

Stay blessed.
