Help In Disguise: A Christmas Devotional

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the LORD.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 5:8-9 NIV

I have a confession to make… I personally do not like asking for help. There I said it! Not because it’s a sign of weakness, but because then I would have to let someone else into my struggle and that sometimes comes with a subconscious, unrealistic expectation from them.

However, when you ask someone for help, what do you expect?

When you pray and ask God to intervene in your situation, do you expect God to part the red sea, hush the waves of the ocean like in Psalm 107:28-30 and make an entrance every time?

I once heard a story in a Christmas film of a man who found himself stuck in a blizzard, so he prayed to God to help him. As time went on, the snow slowly started to pile up. A bearded guy with a sleigh came to help the man but he refused and answered “Thanks, but I know God would save me.” And with that, the guy left. The guy came back a second time and offered help to the man, but he merely replied “I am waiting on God.” A third time, another person came to help and this time the snow was up to his chin but he insisted that he would wait for God to show up. And with that, the man died.

When the man went up to heaven, he asked God, “I had faith in you, why didn’t you come and save me?” And do you know what God said: “I did… I sent a bearded man with a sleigh 3 times but you refused.”

You might be wondering, why are you telling me this story…

I am telling you this story because maybe God has been sending you sleighs and help in disguise that may not have looked like help the first time round, and because of that, you just didn’t want to climb on board.

Today, I’m saying: Give God a chance, to help you in the best way He knows how. Not the way, that would be more convenient for you or one that you would prefer.

Don’t let your preferences,
Comfortability or time frame,
Block your promise,
Your healing &
Your breakthrough.
