He Cries: Draw Near To Me

Have you sometimes felt a tug in your heart, or a strong sense in your spirit, to want to spend time with someone? Give them your attention and maybe even make them a priority?

I have been having the urge, to dive deeper into His word and maybe you have too. Then you have come to the right place. I believe this tug; we feel is an invitation. Not one of a physical act, but an invisible one of the heart. God calls us to draw near to Him, into His presence and He too, will draw near to you (James 4:8). He offers to be our comforter in times of need and lends us His listening ear. His invitation, may not always feel like a physical pull, but can sometimes take the form of situations and difficulties, so that we can thirst for Him.

We constantly get caught up with our schedules, of things to do and people to see, that we distance ourselves from God without realising. And God wants nothing more, but to have a personal relationship with each and every one of us. Daily.

“let us draw near to God with a
sincere heart and with the full
assurance that faith brings, having our
hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a
guilty conscious and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let
us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is
faithful. Hebrews 10:22-23 NIV

Hebrews 10:22-23 has been pressed on my heart for a while and I studied it during my quiet time with God. I like to use the Matthew Henry Commentary when studying the Word. He described coming to God, with a ‘sincere heart’, as one without guilt, envy, jealousy or hypocrisy, because God is the searcher of our hearts.

The Bible, talks of the Parable of the Pharisee and Tax Collector, who came to pray in Luke 18:9-14. Both men were praying, but only the tax-collector went back home justified before God, because he was honest and sincere. Maybe some of us, need to be more like the tax-collector and less like the Pharisee when we come before God.

Another key point this verse mentions, is to come with ‘full assurance’. That when you approach His throne or sit at His feet, know that He is listening. Heeding to every need. That He won’t dismiss you because of your past or because your request is “too small”. We are His children. He wouldn’t say “Ask and it would be given unto you” (Matthew 7:7) if He didn’t mean it. God jokes… but not like that.

Although our enemies would do whatever they can, to strip away our comfort, hope and tackle our faith and holiness with us. The Bible instructs and advices us, to ‘hold unswervingly to the hope we profess’, meaning to hold and embrace the truth and ways of the gospel and the profession of our faith, without doubting or gambling with temptation.

I encourage you to make the decision today, to spend some time alone with God. Be honest and share with Him, your pain, plans, desires, issues, what’s annoying you, dreams etc. He is waiting for you and ready to listen.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank you for communicating with me always. May I draw near to you more often, withholding nothing and knowing fully well, that you hear me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
